Press Release: Tuchman Family Foundation Helps Denver Art Museum Expand Family Programming

Five-year gift funds newly enhanced Family Central area offering hands-on activities
Denver, CO – The Tuchman Family Foundation is helping the Denver Art Museum expand its programming for young children and their families. With support from the foundation, the museum recently launched Family Central, a 5,000-square-foot hub on the second level of the new Sie Welcome Center, offering hands-on activities and an array of resources to help foster engagement and cultivate creativity among families and younger visitors.
The bilingual space serves as a primary hub for families at the museum. Activity carts offer hands-on activities inspired by artworks in the DAM’s collection and incorporate different types of play – imaginative, physical, small world, and creative exploration – while providing opportunities for families to play together with their children and for the children to explore independently.
The museum will eventually re-introduce two family programs in Family Central that have been on hiatus due to the pandemic: Family Backpacks, which are filled with hands-on activities to support museum discovery; and Create Playdate, a bilingual art-making program for kids ages 3 to 5.
The foundation, which helps people build safe, healthy and productive lives, has made a five-year, $375,000 commitment enabling the museum to activate Family Central and expand programming for families throughout the institution.
“We are proud to be sponsoring this unique area, which will serve as a creative hub for Denver’s diverse and growing population of families for many years to come,” said Ken Tuchman, co-director of the Tuchman Family Foundation.
Family Central’s theme of discovery extends to several of the galleries in the newly renovated Lanny and Sharon Martin Building and connecting Hamilton Building, where families can find interactive activities to help them connect with the artwork.
The Tuchman family has partnered with the museum to provide unique art experiences for young children and families since 2007.
“We are grateful for the Tuchman Family Foundation’s long-standing support of the museum and the organization’s commitment to helping us develop innovative programming for young children and their families,” said Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the DAM.
